Emoh Ruo ('Our Home' backwards) is an international traveling exhibition and publication. Presented by the Australian High Commission London and curated be Cameron Bruhn of Architecture Media. Six architectural firms were given a brief to rethink the mechanisms through which a city presents itself to the world through architecture, of which Minifie Nixon's “Keys to Mildura” is one.

Our scheme proposes four instances each of which is designed as a spark within the urban context of Mildura. Collectively these act as a masterplan but are small enough to for them to be kick-started without massive funding initiatives. The Rural City Retreat, The Orchard Seam, The Sports Spine and The Jolly Billabong were all chosen to bring to the foreground elements within Mildura which are highly successful yet are not strongly linked to its reputation.

In multitude the ordinary becomes sublime. Through new opportunities provided by CNC brick laying technology, we imagined a façade where each brick had a unique relationship to its neighbour. Warped surfaces, gradated textures and porosities are thus created whilst retaining an assemblative logic common to centuries of unit masonry construction.

The project comprises 25 affordable residential units, a small showroom with office space, a half basement of car spaces and ample bicycle parking. One third of the site is given over to public space. The building's height is defined by what can be comfortably accessed by stair. The internal breeze-wall space allows for natural ventilation of all apartments and bricks are used as thermal mass to stabilise internal temperatures.

From a list of ten architects invited to compete for five sites Minfie Nixon have been chosen unanimously by an expert design panel with representatives from RMIT University, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Grocon to design a 10 level 1,000m2 floor plate building with retail at lower levels and commercial and/or residential above.
The significant CUB site at the north end of Melbourne's major civic axis has long stood vacant. Located on the corner of Swanston street and Queensbury street, the north eastern portion of Grocon's exciting Carlton Brewery development, this building will provide the important swanston street address to the northern end of the site, face two internal public spaces and hold congress with the existing Maltsore and the Queensbury Hotel, its immediate neighbours.
Grocon have submitted a planning scheme amendment to the Department of Sustainability and Environment which is expected to be incorporated by december when design work will commence on the commission.
